iPhone in EUrope
All major network carries in Europe announced they are having problems selling their legit iPhone`s, the phones still remain on the shelves after O2, in UK, and T-Mobile, in Germany, dropped several times the iPhone prices. All these iPhones could remain unsold, since most of the users wait for the 3G enabled version of iPhone and Apple prepares 200.000 of 3G iPhone units by the end of may and another 2 millions in June (is rumored to even boast a 32GB version).
However the carriers should recover some of the costs with the actual subscriptions chosen by some of the users which preferred cheaper iPhone`s. Sunday Times comments that the European carriers were ‘enchanted’ by the iPhone frenzy that started in June 2007 in US.
The price drop actually makes us wonder why it does not will tame the black market of unlocked iPhone`s imported from the USA. After all, to get an O2 or T-Mobile iPhone you have to sign a long-term contract with O2 or T-Mobile. While the iPhone 8GB gets its numbers slashed, the price of the 16GB iPhone version remains unchanged.
