Expensive materials and high-quality crafting – that’s how the Nokia 8800 series of luxury phones have always been characterized. Nothing false about that but with the Nokia 8800 Erdos this reputation is about to change.
Coming from Espoo, Finland, Nokia 8800 Erdos is headed to the market with a different approach when it comes to the way the phones are built, as well as great differences in materials. It will be constructed out of a single piece of “bullet silver”.
Measuring 116.9 x 50,3 x 15.0 mm and includes 8GB of available internal memory, with no MicroSD memory card slot included in the equation, the Erdos “will be Nokia’s most high-profile luxury handset south of Vertu”, according to Cellpassion’s source. They also mention that the keypad raises up to meet the display’s level when slid open and the glass display becomes transparent when the screen is on. It remains silver when the screen is off.
When it comes to the specifications list of this brand new phone, you can expect a scratch-proof glass, rather than sapphire, a 2.4-inch OLED display that boasts a QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) resolution and support for 16 million colors, the best photo snapper in the luxury class with its 5-megapixel with Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus, video recording capabilities and LED flash, as well as a series of connectivity options, including High Speed USB (micro-USB), Stereo Bluetooth v. 2.0 (A2DP & AVRCP), WLAN, WCDMA bands: I + VIII, GSM 900/1800/1900, and AGPS. The camera can shoot video with a resolution of 288×352 pixels at 30 frames per second, or 480×640 pixels and 15 frames per second. Nokia Erdos works over cellular networks of 2G and 3G wireless support.
In addition, the Nokia 8800 Erdos comes with dedicated noise reduction microphone on the back and it is expected to come with Symbian S60 3rd edition on board. The phone, said to be the first of its breed to be a full-on smartphone, should reach the market in October 2009. It sounds awesome but the price has not yet been revealed, though this could easily top the price point of the Gold Arte.
