Palm has been struggling to keep up with the competition and has come under heavy criticism for its lack of innovation and delays in releasing its new operating system, but according to timesonline.com, Palm showed off the Pre device and the software at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Palm Pre features a 3.1” touchscreen with multitouch, EVDO Rev. A, Wi-Fi, GPS, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, stereo Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, 8GB of internal storage and 3.0 megapixel camera to top it all off. Disappointingly, the camera won’t have video recording capabilities at this time, but those could be added in the future. In terms of music, like the T-Mobile G1, Palm has collaborated with the Amazon Music Store, so you will be able to purchase songs over the air from your Pre.

Pre will also features Palm’s new WebOS (formally code-named “Nova”). Palm has decided not to use other mobile operating systems such as Windows Mobile or Android and spent several years creating their own called Palm Web OS. Weighing about 135 grams (4.76 ounce) and measuring approximately 59.57 mm x 100.53 mm x 16.95 mm in dimension, the new Palm Pre has a excellent design and user-friendly interface. Designed with an egg shaped body to keep up with the recent trends and demands of hi-tech users, the Pre is featured with a 3.1 inch 24-bit 320 x 480 pixels multi-touch curved touch screen HVGA display. Full QWERTY keyboard. is similar to that of the Palm Treo Pro; the buttons are a little on the smaller side, but there is a good amount of space between them to reduce any problems.

The phone includes a roller ball and touch sensitivity multi-touch feature that extends below the screen up to the gesture area. The unique shape of Pre is smooth enough to slip into your pocket easily. When closed, it is just perfect for web browsing, music, photos, videos and phone calls as well. When it is opened up, Pre becomes the most optimized email and text messaging device. The smartphone makes multitasking easy with the Deck of Cards feature that lets you scroll through various applications and toggle between them without having to open and close windows.
It seems that the actual price of Pre will in fact be $399. The device is expected to be launched on the U.S. market sometime in the May-June period, and to come to Europe about two months later. Moreover, the European version is rumored to come unlocked, sporting a $500-$550 price.
