Samsung D880 DuoS
Dual sim phones are not a recent concept and many users wish for a dual sim phone, however you had doubts when it comes to buying such phone because most of the available dual sim phones are Chinese brands. The change of direction in the dual sim arena comes from Samsung, which has recently launched D880 DuoS, a 2,5G model able ho hold two sim cards simultaneously.
Selecting the operational sim comes naturally when using the colloquial User Interface that also allows setting a ringtone for each sim. Also the WAP/MMS/E-mail profiles are changed automatically.

The Samsung D880 Duos users will certainly also enjoy the 2.3 inch QVGA display, the 3 megapixels autofocus camera, the document viewer, the slide design that consecrated Samsung phone, the increased capacity battery (1200 MAh) and also a business card recognition feature. Samsung brings the dual SIM trend in the spotlight with Duos D880.
We shall see if Nokia and Motorola will decide to go in this direction. The only problem we could find with Samsung D880 Duos is the price: around 600$, depending on the region.

samsung d880 trying to use in australia with optus sim card not working, do you know of any problems with this phone, it continuously turns on and off.
hawo meny praic mobail samsung d880
I’ve owned the phone for a few days now and I must say I’m impressed with the quality of the phone. Not just the materials used but also how polished the OS and software is compared to the Chinese branded dual sim phones.
Switching back and forth between sim cards to make calls and send text messages is a breeze. You do need to read the owner’s manual thoroughly or at least a couple of times to get the hang of it. The instructions could have been written more clearly with regards to this.
Other than that, downloading pictures and ringtones via bluetooth was a snap. Only sound you can’t really change is the message tones. You can only use ones already on the phone. But that’s not unexpected if you’ve own Previous Samsung phones.
When you first turn on the phone with two sim cards installed, you will need to initialize each sim card in turn before you can use the phone the way it is intended. The on-screen instructions for this were easy enough to understand and follow.
Overall, I’m impressed with this effort from Samsung. The only things it doesn’t have compared to it’s more pricier siblings is a higher megapixel camera, xenon flash, 3G and wifi capabilities.
But being able to use 2 sims simultaneously, I feel, makes up for these deficiencies.
I having duo 880 but i have problems shifting network can anyone help ..?
Very Good phone t use If you want to be undisturbed by the continuous incoming calls. Your friends and associates will start wondering where have you vanished to. People trying to reach you will constantly receive the message “Out of coverage area” or they will hear a ring but you will not even know about it until they confront you. occasionally when you get connected people will hang up on you because they will not be able to hear you clearly. Very GOOD phone to give people the impression that you are VIP having 2 mobile but yet enjoy the peace of being undisturbed by the telephones. This phone will be a blot on the samsung name. I bought this inspite of cheaper dual sim phones being available believing i samsungs quality but I feel cheated.
hi….does thos phone has vibrator function?……pls comment…thnx!
yes Nilesh, it does
wow… a handphone with a vibrator function.. kinky…
I own the telephone for just a week. The concept of having 2 SIM card is excellent.
The battery life is medium compared to my previous phones. The quality of the voice transmission is also medium.
But there is one important drawback: the telephone often end the call even with a strong signal…
@wonder girl
i was suprised as well… this would be the first of its kind… phone which functions as vibrator ..

hi guys… i am planning to get one… and my cousin advised me to check its features and reviews… as i read all the reviews… auto shut off seems the problem most… do u think i will be also experiencing the same thing. please advise me…
Hi, I have had the D880 dual sims a few weeks now, no problems as such, the user’s guide content is very brief and I wonder is their a more detailed guide out there, I’m having problems accessing the memory card, which I have installed and formatted and is detected by the phone, any help greately appreciated
In order to access a memory card installed by you, if u r in the music menu, open it, then at the top of the screen, there’s an option whether u press # or *..pressing the # (bottom-right) will give u access to ur music stored in ur memory card..do the same thing for other menus…d880 is a great phone so far when it comes to duos..however, my only prob with this phone is that my battery last for only 2 days! lol!
I bought D880 three months back, but due to it’s defficiencies, I was readu to sell it for 30 to 40% less but even couldn’t sell it. The draw backs of the mobile are:
1)Sound quality is very bad. The volume of ringtone as well music is very low even at the max level.
2)The primary sim works alright but the secondory sim gives problum like audio disturbance, and problum in out going call.
3)The quality of the camra is very bad inspite of 3.2 M.P.and close portrates are akay.
I bought a Samsung mobile first time in my life but had a bitter experience.

I’ve been using this phone for the past 3 months. It’s been impressive.Having two SIMs in one phone is awesome.I guess u guys should explore your fone more, that might answer a lot of your questions.Wish u luck with your mobile.Cheers.
I’ve had the phone for more than six months. It works very well, except for on thing: Sound quality. The problem is clipping. Every word the other side says is clipped slightly in the beginning, making it hard to hear phone numbers and to listen to other languages. Had to change phone today to hear a number read on my voice mail. Could Samsung fix this, the phone would certainly be up to all it promises to be.
The clipping could be network dependent. Seems extra bad with Proximus in Belgium.
The 1st sim slot is the only one that will work with 1900 band (North America) 2nd sim slot will not be able to receive any signal from 1900 band (Dual Band only). So this is very bad if you are trying to use 2 sims in the US. However, it’s works great elsewhere in the world.
The Samsung D880 is the biggest “POS” phone that I have ever purchased. I thought having two SIMs was an brilliant idea as I work in two countries, I wouldn’t have to lug two phones and power supplies around with me any longer.
BOY WAS I WRONG. The D880 has only given me enormous amounts of grief. Here’s why:
1) I can’t sync outlook 07 calendar because it’s always out by -11 hrs (and yes my PC and phone are set to the same time zone). So it absolutely useless for using it as a diary! Which is very important for me work wise
2) Address book won’t go into “Last Name, First Name” mode. it will only stay in “First Name, Last Name” mode regardless of what you configure in the Address book set-up menu. Again very very frustrating from a business/office side of the phone.
3) And the “icing-on-the-cake” is that the battery cover is so poorly fitted to the phone that it always & I mean always falls off every time I either take it out of my pocket or Cell phone holder!
4) I’ve tried contacting Samsung support (via E-mail) regarding the Syncing side of things and have had no reply at all!
5) The voice quality would have to be the worst I have ever experienced with a cell phone and that is listening and talking as people I talk to can’t hear me properly “they say it always drops out”
6) The slide mechanism feels cheap and nasty (because it is).
Anybody who is thinking about this phone should really think twice about it (pardon the pun) . I thought having two SIMS in the one phone was a good Idea but I will never NEVER buy another Samsung POS phone AGAIN!
i love to buy samsung d880
I’ve bought this model just for the dual sim capability in order to take advantage from the different pricing policies between mobile phones companies.
The quality of the material is not the best but is quite acceptable. The battery cover could be much more stiff and firm. I’ve realised that it has a very good camera in daylight shots. The camera mode is activated really fast in this model. The camera functions are plenty and very usefull. As with most mobile phones the shots in dark place are poor. Its menus are very simplyfied and easy. I find very good the calendar and the internet browser. In addition if you install the java opera mini 4.1 you’ll have a very powerfull browser, compatible with nearly every site in internet.
What I find in general bad is the battery consuption. Under a mediocre usage I’ve to charge it at least every two days. However there is some solutions about that.
Firstly try lowering the brightness of the screen and enable a short period of time for the dim function . Disable the brightness in keypads as long as you don’t realy need it .
Secondly if you really don’t want both sims activated at all times is easy to deactive one of them without rebooting the phone, such a thing will prolonge the battery life at least one day.
Thirdly the radio FM and the Gprs especialy with the use of java Opera mini 4.1 will drain the battery after a few hours.
Fourthly avoid the permanent activation of bluetooth for the use of wireless headset. Use the wire headset instead and by deactiving the bluetooth you’ll save much power.
The policy of samsung is to use different batteries for nearly every model in order to make the use of no name batteries difficult. Such a thing is really incovinient since the phone under normal use don’t have big stamina and the need of spare battery is imminent. I guess the the reason of the low battery duration is its size, which is relatively very small for the size of the phone.
Somehtings else I find anoying is that when I connect the phone to PC in mass storage mode I can’t receive or make phone calls.
The maximum size of microSD that operates normaly is 2 Gbytes and that is really very low when there is in the market HighCapacity microSD of 8 Gbytes reasonably priced. Also is imposible to change microSD cards without turning off the phone since it’s situated behind the battery.
The media player of the phone is very basic but not bad at all and it plays mp3 and 3g videos.
The size of phone is quite big but is reasonable since it operates constantly with two different sims.
Keep in mind the only the first sims provide full mobile services at three band mode. The second sim is in only dual band mode and offer only phone call and sms. So be carefull at the first installation of sims. The side button for sellecting instantly the sim you need is really good.
If you ignore the dual sim function it’s very overprised with similar single sim mobile phones. Nevertheless is very reasonably priced an I’d say unique with the constant dual sim support it offers.
Although in itself a wonderful phone with two sims, its quality is not what you might expect. I mean here the send/receive quality especially of the second sim. This is in all respects far inferior to the first sim. I could not find the reason for this, but I like to know. Also it is not something that is just a problem with the one phone because our company has five D880’s active and all have the same problem with the second sim. This can easily be tested by changing the two simcards (physically) in their slots and you will find a diminished quality for the second slot again. other that that it is not a bad phone.
why does my phone do not save sent messages?

I have been using D880 for last 10 months and quet upset about the performance.
It lacks audio clarity, network strength and the phone fails often during conversation.
I regret the purchase decision and now feel that any Chineese duo model could have done the job!~

This is the most worst set i ever purchased in my life and i’ll swear that i’ll not purchase any samsung product going forward in my life.. Within 6 months of my purchase I started facing the problem of white screen. Samsung service center doesn’t resolve my problem as when the returned the set the screen was damaged. Now they are asking money to repair this problem… I’ll suggest everyone to stop purchasing any product of samsung as they are stealing our money…
