The new Sony Ericsson G705 may look like any other cell phone, but in fact, it has a lot more than looks. It is equipped with everything you would need in a mobile phone and it has almost all the features of other phones, such as a Blackberry or an iPhone. And best of all, it is thin and light to carry around, even though it does not have a huge display with touchscreen.
The elegant sliding phone measures 95 x 47 x 14.3 mm and weighs 98 grams. The G705 has quite minimalist design without too many labels like 3G, Wi-Fi and so on. It is made entirely of plastic and it has a glossy black finish at the front and a rubbery, non-gliding texture at the rear. The front of Sony Ericsson G705 is dominated by the 2.4-inch TFT display with 256-K colors that supports 320×240 pixels resolution and above the screen is a ear speaker, light sensor and video call camera. Below it are the navigation, selection, activity menu, call, end call (power on/off) and clear buttons. The phone also slides upwards to reveal the numeric keypad for dialing and messaging. The keypad has a smooth feel that makes typing comfortable.
On the right side of Sony Ericsson G705 you will see volume rocker and dedicated camera button, whereas on the left there’s the unique connector for charging the battery, connecting to wired stereo headset for handsfree usage and connecting to the PC via USB cable. There is also a Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot to add more storage to your phone. At the top is a tiny play/stop button for user to turn on the last used music application (music player or radio) and to stop music playing. The backcover hides the 950mAh Lithium-polymer 3.6V standard battery and the phone SIM card slot beside the camera lens.
The main menu is easy to navigate and provides various options such as phone settings, camera, contacts, messaging and entertainment. On the main menu is an interesting PlayNow option that allows you to preview and buy ringtones, games and images conveniently. Simply select the ringtone or game you want, click the Buy option to purchase it and download to your phone. You do need to have an Internet connection first to use the service. Moreover, the phone supports Flash Lite themes so you can easily change the wallpaper, or the color scheme. The phone has four themes pre-installed so you can adjust the phone to your needs. The phonebook in Sony Ericsson G705 can store up to 1000 contacts with multiple fields. Thanks to the Manage Messages application, you can easily move your messages around, group them, or arrange according to a category. It also comes with a bunch of timesaving features such as file manager, calendar, tasks, notes, timer, three games for entertainment and so on and so on.
The built-in GPS features A-GPS, thanks to which is works quite fast. The phone has preinstalled Google Maps and a Wayfinder Navigator 7 thanks to which you can easily plan your route. You can also choose optimal route for distance, or time and get traffic information.
The 3.2 megapixel camera has fixed focus and a LED flash. You can take photos in up to 2048 x 1536 resolution and use a scene modes, some effects and self timer. The Sony Ericsson G705 can record clips in QVGA resolution at 15 fps.

According to the manufacturer, the battery will work for 400 hours of standby or 10 hours of talking. Nevertheless, as you will most probably use the Sony Ericsson G705 also for listening to music and taking photos it will vary. The Sony Ericsson G705 has a flash-based Media Center supporting plenty of file formats. It has a few equalizer presets and Stereo Widening to improve the sound quality.
Overall, the Sony Ericsson G705 is a good phone with good functionality and with a lot more features than the competition. It is expected to hit the stores in the second half of the year.
